Solar Neighbourhoods crosses the finish line

Thanks to the enthusiastic response from residents of Wards 29, 30, 31 and 32, the Solar Neighbourhoods program has now reached its target of 100 systems ready for installation in our pilot program area.  That means a very successful end to our special incentives and loans for solar hot water, but it does not mean an end to our support for homeowners interested in using the free energy of the sun. We can still assist you with selecting a system, securing a building permit and arranging an ecoENERGY assessment. We can also add your name to our program waiting list and if there are any contract cancellations, you could still be eligible for a $1,000 cash rebate (sorry, our finance program is now closed). Thanks to everyone who took an interest in solar for making this program a success. We will still be here to assist those who have gone solar and those still interested in looking at solar for some time to come. Contact us at 416-392-6795 or solar@toronto.ca — we're here to help!

Solar Neighbourhoods expands

The Solar Neighbourhoods program is expanding its coverage area to include Wards 29, 31 and 32 together with Ward 30, effective Sept. 1, 2009. This expansion is in response to the high level of interest that has been expressed in these neighbouring wards. As a pilot program, we are also looking to learn from a wider array of installation types and installations. So if you are a resident in any of these four wards, you are now eligible for the special Solar Neighbourhoods incentive, no cost financing and, of course, support from our friendly staff throughout the installation process. However, while the program coverage area has expanded, the total number of systems for which incentives will be available has not, so request an info kit today as our first step to taking advantage of these first come, first served benefits!

See what your neighbours are saying about the advantages of solar water heating

There are now close to 20 solar hot water systems being installed on roofs across Riverdale. We have collected some positive feedback from those who have already taken the plunge. Take a look and think about what solar can do for you while incentives are still available.

Deal only with Solar Neighbourhoods' approved contractors!

It has come to our attention that some unscrupulous companies may be using the Solar Neighbourhoods name to try to sell their services. Only the companies listed on our official supplier page and our ecoEnergy partner, Windfall Ecology Centre, are authorized to conduct any home inspection or provide any services on our behalf. Furthermore, these contractors will only come to your home if you have pre-arranged an appointment — they will never show up for an unannounced inspection of your home or current water heater. If you have any doubts, please contact us immediately at 416-392-6795 (lines still open during City labour dispute).

Bullfrog and Enbridge turn to the sun

Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading 100% green electricity provider, together with Enbridge Gas Distribution and EnerWorks, has launched the Solar Water Heating Program.  Homeowners living in the Enbridge Gas Distribution franchise area can now purchase and install their own solar water heater at a discounted price.  Savings are made possible through extensive Federal and Provincial Government rebates and incentives, allowing homeowners to save up to 50% on their solar water heater.  In Ward 30, the system will also qualify for the Solar Neighbourhoods incentive.
